ISLAMABAD,
Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The parliament of Pakistan was summoned on Saturday to meet
on Aug. 11 to discuss a resolution to seek the impeachment of President Pervez
Musharraf.
The News Network International news agency quoted
officials as saying that the National Assembly, Lower House of the Parliament,
would meet at 5 p.m.(1100 GMT).
The ruling coalition will table a resolution with a
charge-sheet against Musharraf.
At a joint news conference held with Pakistan Muslim
League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan People's Party Co-Chairman
Asif Ali Zardari announced Thursday that the coalition would initiate
impeachment proceedings against Musharraf.
"In view of President Musharraf's wrong policies and
failure to get vote of confidence from the newly elected assemblies as per
commitment given by him to the Supreme Court, the coalition leadership has
decided to move impeachment proceedings against him," a declaration issued by
the two leaders said.
Musharraf said he would face the charges and
impeachment.
Four provincial assemblies, which constitute part of the Electoral College for election of the President, will adopt resolutions demanding Musharraf to take a vote of confidence immediately as committed before the Supreme Court.
Pakistani politician say impeachment decision hasty
ISLAMABAD, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians Makhdoom Amin Fahim Thursday said the coalition government had made a sensitive decision to impeach the President in haste like other decisions the coalition made in the past.
The Dawn News TV channel quoted Amin Fahim as saying that the time was not right for the impeachment of the president as he was afraid that politicians were playing with fire. Full story
Pakistan's coalition to initiate move to impeach Musharraf
ISLAMABAD, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's coalition will initiate a move to impeach President Pervez Musharraf immediately, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced Thursday.
The judges who were dismissed last year will be restored after the impeachment of Musharraf, Zardari said while addressing a joint news conference with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif here. Full story
U.S. says impeachment against Musharraf Pakistan's internal affair
WASHINGTON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The United States said on Thursday the bid by Pakistan's coalition to impeach President Pervez Musharraf, a close ally of Washington, was "the internal politics of Pakistan internal affair."
"We have consistently said the internal politics of Pakistan is an issue for the Pakistani people to decide," State Department spokesman Gonzago Gallegos told reporters. Full story
