Seychelles president hails Beijing Olympics opening ceremony

    ANTANANARIVO, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Seychelles President James Alix Michel said on Sunday that he appreciated the marvelous opening of the Beijing Olympic Games held Friday, saying that it was a complete success.

    Returning from China after attending the opening ceremony, the president told the Seychelles media at the airport that Beijing was a clean city with high-spirited and progressive people.

    He said the Chinese government and people have realized the theme of "One World, One Dream" and the Beijing Olympics is a great contribution to the Olympic ideal.

    Michel said he was very pleased to have the opportunity to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao during his short stay in Beijing.

    The president described his trip to Beijing as short but very meaningful, which he said would undoubtedly strengthen friendly relationship between the two countries, especially between the sports sectors of the two countries.

    He expressed his wish that the on-going games would be held smoothly and successfully and that the Seychelles athletics could score their best achievement.
