JERUSALEM, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Medical teams from more than a dozen of countries will compete in their version of the Olympic Games in Israel later this month, the organizer said Monday.
Upon the heels of the 29th Summer Games in Beijing, the second Magen David Adom (MDA) Olympics organized by Israeli rescue service MDA, will kick off on Sept. 7 by the Dead Sea and in the southern town of Dimona, MDA said in a statement.
Some 180 medics and paramedics from the Jewish state and 12 other countries will take part in the 4-day event aimed to test the professionalism and capabilities of the medical teams in saving lives, said the statement.
Under the theme of "Saving Lives at the Dead Sea," the some 40 teams will deal with various scenes from conventional incidents to nonconventional ones, for road accidents to mass casualty incidents, to show their expertise, determination, physical fitness and ability to work under difficult conditions, according to the organizer.
The first MDA Olympics was held in 2006 around Lake Kinneret and the Western Galilee in northern Israel.
