
BEIJING, Sept. 9 -- As action steps into
full stride at the Beijing Paralympics cultural events abound for the
entertainment of athletes and games visitors. There are exhibitions and live
shows.
At the Olympic Green, the folk culture of China is an
instant hit. Since the Games' opening Sunday, the wheel chair accessible site
has welcomed hundreds of visitors from home and abroad. The display items are
mostly examples of China's intangible heritage. There are papercuts, a sparkling
array of handicrafts and folk music. For those eager to learn more, for an in
depth understanding, there are lectures by renowned historians and scholars. The
experts will offer insight into the role of Chinese culture in the global arena.
Sunday saw a stage spectacular on the Olympic Green.
Titled "Cheers for the Force of Life", featured performers included disabled
people from across China. Some are from earthquake ravaged Sichuan Province.
There will be ongoing performances through until
September 16th.

Away from the Olympic Green, 18 Paralympics Cultural
Squares have opened around Beijing, where there are more exhibits and live
shows. 94 shows are being mounted during the Games. All venues are designed to
be accessible to handicapped people. The city's major theaters have also lined
up an additional 201 performances as part of the Paralympics celebration.
