BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- More foreign leaders have
sent telegrams and letters to congratulate China on the complete success of the
Aug. 8-24 Beijing Olympics.
Laotian President Choummaly Saygnasone said the
Beijing Olympics has won China worldwide acclaim and demonstrate to the world
the solidarity among the Chinese people.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said
the opening ceremony of the Games is splendid and unforgettable while the
organization work is faultless and Chinese athletes have given outstanding
performance.
The Beijing Olympics set an example for other
countries, such as Brazil, which hopes to host Olympic Games in future, Lula
said.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon said the elaborate
organizing work has showcased not only China's rich historic and cultural
heritage, but also its vigorous present and brilliant future.
The spirit of fair competition embodies the common
values of all mankind, namely peace and harmony.
Canadian Governor General Michaelle Jean said the
Beijing Olympics served as a window for the world to learn about China.
Meanwhile, it provides an opportunity for other countries to enhance mutual
understanding and friendship.
Botswana's President Seretse Ian Khama spoke highly
of China's careful organizing work, especially the Chinese people's kindness,
friendliness and warmth toward all athletes.
The Beijing Games enhanced understanding among
peoples all over the world through sports, the universal language for mankind,
he said.
Indonesian House Speaker Agung Laksono hoped that the
Beijing Olympics would offer important opportunities for in-depth dialogues,
better understanding among the international community and promoting
international peace and harmony.
Speaker of the Egyptian People's Assembly Ahmed Fathi
Sorour said the world marvels at China's great achievements and outstanding
organizing work at the Beijing Games, which not only proved China's ability to
host a large-scale sports event, but also manifested the tremendous progress
made by China, a country with a long history.
Yahya bin Mahfoodh al-Manthri, president of Oman's
State Council said the Omani people have followed the Beijing Olympics with
great zeal. He praised the elaborate preparation and organization of the Games,
especially the outstanding performance at the opening ceremony.
ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan said the
Beijing Olympiad will go down in the annals of the Olympic movement as a new
pacesetter and great Games to be remembered for a long time.
Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana and Kenyan
Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula also extended their congratulations to China on
the successful Beijing Olympic Games.
