LUSAKA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's acting President, Rupiah Banda, has kicked off his Three day campaign trail of Western Province with a pledge to unite the people of Zambia, Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) reported on Wednesday.
Speaking when he addressed a mammoth rally at Blue Game grounds in Mongu this evening, Banda said his government would focus on taking development to all parts of the country without discrimination.
Banda reaffirmed his determination to use the experience acquired from late President Levy Mwanawasa's leadership to fulfill the economic development agenda for the people of Zambia.
He said once re-elected to power, the ruling MMD (Movement for Multi-party Democracy) government would work tirelessly to provide better services in education, health and other key sectors of the economy.
Banda said his government would further improve focus on infrastructure development as significant ingredient for achieving national development.
He indicated his readiness, as MMD candidate, to contest the country's Oct. 30 Presidential elections to be contested by Three other candidates from the opposition parties.
Meanwhile, Banda is happy with the move by all Members of Parliament in Western Province for resolving to support his candidature and the MMD in this month's polls, according to ZANIS.
Banda said he was equally humbled that chiefs in most parts of the country have pledged to support him in the forth-coming Presidential elections.
Banda indicated that in Southern Province, out of the 32 gazetted chiefdoms, 30 chiefs have pledged to support him, while in Northern Province all chiefs have also registered their support for his candidature.
The Acting President pointed out that in North Western Province most chiefs pledged to support him adding that the situation was similar in all other provinces.
And MMD National Chairman, Michael Mabenga, who is also Acting Party President said Mr Banda was a best candidate to unite the country and step up development efforts of government.
