RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian police seized 8 tons of marijuana Friday morning in Sao Jose das Palmeiras, in southern Parana state near the Paraguayan border.
Acting on an anonymous tip-off, police found the drugs hidden in the back of a truck. It was the largest drug haul in the state this year.
Two persons were arrested and charged with drug trafficking. They face a five to 15-year prison sentence if convicted.
The raid was part of Operation Fronteira (Border), launched by state police to stop drug trafficking and smuggling in the Itaipu Lake area on the Paraguayan border.
